There is a Smoke Free Bylaw Enforced at St Joseph’s General Hospital Elliot Lake.
St Joseph’s General Hospital Elliot Lake (SJGH EL) and Algoma Public Health (APH) officials are advising patients, staff and visitors that enforcement action will be increased related to the City of Elliot Lake Bylaw No. 03?4, which makes the Hospital, St. Joseph’s Manor and the Oak Centre properties smoke? free.
APH Tobacco Enforcement Officers will issue tickets to violators of the bylaw, with fines starting at $255. SJGH EL personnel routinely patrol the grounds.
All St Joseph’s General Hospital Property is Smoke?Free
St. Joseph's General Hospital, St. Joseph’s Manor and the Oaks Centre and all related buildings, structures, property, parking lots and vehicles located thereon are smoke-free. Bylaw No. 03?4 applies to all patients, visitors, staff, and volunteers.
Respect for Adjacent Property Owners
Patients, staff, visitors and volunteers are reminded to respect the rights and privacy of the property owners in proximity to the St Joseph's General Hospital, St. Joseph’s Manor and the Oaks Centre and that it is illegal to litter.
Smoker Cessation/Management Supports Available
If you are a smoker and are admitted to the hospital, St Joseph’s General Hospital staff will help you to manage your nicotine withdrawal. Your nurse will talk to you about your smoking pattern when you are admitted and tell you about medications that can be prescribed while you are in hospital to manage nicotine withdrawal. If your admission is for an elective procedure, talk to your doctor about nicotine withdrawal before coming to the hospital. Your doctor can recommend and or prescribe medications that will help you through your hospital stay.
