The COVID-19 pandemic has had an impact on the mental health of many people in our communities.

Coping with COVID-19
  • It has been reported by Algoma Public Health that over 1 in 4 Algoma residents are heavy drinkers;
  • Many people in Algoma live with one or more chronic diseases; hospitalization rates from self-harm are higher in Algoma compared to Ontario;
  • Opioids are a major cause of drug toxicity hospitalization in Algoma, and the rates of hospitalization due to mental health or addictions are continuing to rise in Algoma, the NE LHIN and Ontario.
