ST. JOSEPH’S GENERAL HOSPITAL ELLIOT LAKE REMINDS PUBLIC THAT ECP REGULATIONS REMAIN IN HOSPITAL SETTING
Dec 13, 2022
St. Joseph’s General Hospital Elliot Lake recognizes that contact from family and caregivers contribute greatly to a patient’s quality of life and has been making every effort to continue to support safe visiting, while balancing the need to protect the safety of our patients and staff. As COVID-19 continues to circulate in our community, alongside other respiratory viruses such as influenza and RSV, SJGHEL would like to remind the public that Hospital visitation remains limited to Essential Care Partners (ECPs) only at this time. Essential Care Partners are individuals identified by patients or substitute decisions makers as being essential for their well-being and providing direction in their care, and/or whose presence enhances their stay and contributes positively to their overall healing process.
Designated Essential Care Partners are approved on an individual case basis. There are exceptions to this directive in compassionate circumstances, and guidelines have been provided to front-line staff on the process for any exceptions. An ECP is different than a social visitor. Most often, ECPs are family or close friends of the patient who typically know the patient’s health history, provide care, and know the patients’ personal values. The ECP designation provides a consistent and equitable way for patients to have access to this support as safely as possible despite any visitor restrictions and is consistent with the hospital’s vision to provide each patient with the first-class care, exceptional service, and compassion we would want for our loved ones. It is important to understand that an ECP designation is not a COVID-19-related designation. This is a person whose presence is permitted 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, regardless of COVID-19-related, or any other, hospital restrictions.
Visitors are invited to access our Virtual Connections Program from 10am to 9pm daily. Requests can be made by phone to all units of the Hospital, and urgent connections may be made at any time at the discretion of the clinical team.
We ask that you please be kind to our front-line staff as we continue this critical infection control measure in an effort to ensure the safety of our patients, staff, and health care partners. For specific inquiries, email patientrelations@sjgh.ca and include your name, contact information, patient name and location, as well as any applicable vaccination status information.
