Our Hospital’s Surgical program is enhanced by three visiting surgical specialties – Gynecology, Ophthalmology, and Otolaryngology (ENT). Visiting Surgical Specialists attend SJGHEL on a biweekly to monthly basis.
Patients are referred to our General Surgery Clinic or Surgical Specialist Program through their Primary Health Care Practitioner/Family Doctor. If you require surgery, you will need to complete a Pre-operative Questionnaire, which will be provided to you during your initial consult. This questionnaire will be reviewed by one of our Ambulatory Care Centre (ACC) Nurses. Based on your health history and medications, you may be required to attend the Hospital for a pre-operative appointment with our Nursing staff or to see an Anaesthetist. Our Ambulatory Care Centre (ACC)/Day Surgery Unit will book this appointment for you.
ACC/Day Surgery is where patients come to be prepared for their surgical procedure; we are located on the 2nd Floor of the Hospital. The majority of surgeries at SJGHEL are day surgery procedures, meaning that you go home after your surgery/procedure. Your Surgeon will explain if your specific surgery/procedure will require you to be admitted to our Hospital; depending on your surgery/procedure you will be admitted to either our Medical/Surgical floor or our Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
See SJGHEL’s General Information Sheet below for instructions on preparing for surgery.
