Mission, Vision and Values

In 2021 SJGHEL the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) undertook a broad consultation process to establish a new strategic plan for the five-year period from 2022 to 2026. Over the course of seven months, SLT members participated in 14 separate consultation sessions on the future direction for SJGHEL. This process involved both internal and external stakeholders. Consultation included our employees, Medical Advisory Committee, Board of Trustees, elected officials, Elliot Lake Council and staff, community stakeholders, Indigenous representatives, and our local MP were all part of our review.

With the designation of the City of Elliot Lake as a “retirement community” we needed to ensure a focus on our high senior population and their needs while balancing the cultural and demographic needs of the communities we serve. These services included first-class care at each of our three sites: our Acute Care Hospital, St. Joseph’s Manor and The Oaks Centre.

This is the outcome of our planning sessions. Our Mission remained the same as our previous strategic plan as this reflects who we are as a Catholic Healthcare Institution. We created a new vision as we strive towards our goal of establishing and maintaining our services as a “Centre of Excellence” providing first-class healthcare.

As an organization we are working behind the scenes to ensure that each of our departments and their employees are aligning their goals and objectives with the new direction under the four pillars established in the new strategic plan. (Our Focus, Our Culture, Our Approach, Our Commitment).

Most importantly we retained our original values but have added a new value of “Humility and Harmony” which strongly reflects the leadership approach and direction that SLT wants to take the SJGHEL team in when providing our services.
