St. Joseph’s General Hospital Elliot Lake (SJGHEL) is part of the Regional Cancer Care Program. Our Hospital provides an outpatient satellite program affiliated with the Northeast Cancer Centre in Sudbury. All patients are referred to our Chemotherapy Department through the oncology services at the Northeast Cancer Centre (NECC)
Our Chemotherapy Department is supported by a multi-disciplinary team of Nurses, Physicians, Pharmacy, and Laboratory staff. We are committed to providing essential outpatient oncology assessments and treatment to patients across the Algoma and Sudbury districts. Treatments include chemotherapy, peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC)/central line care, and supportive injections and infusions. Please note that our Hospital does not provide radiation treatment.
There are many treatment regimes for oncology care. Your Oncologist at the NECC will review this with you and determine if your treatment is appropriate to be provided at SJGHEL. Not all chemotherapy treatments can be provided at our Hospital. In some cases, patients will receive their first treatment in Sudbury and then be transferred to our Hospital’s clinic. In other cases, patients come to our Hospital for assessments by our team and then receive their treatment in Sudbury. We work in collaboration with NECC to provide access to care for our patients to minimize the need for travel outside of our community for treatment.
